Also known as paper filigree, this technique started in the 15th century in Italy and France. It really took off in the 18th century in England and America. It is back again as creating by hand has risen in popularity as an alternative to too much screen-time. 

In this two-hour experience you will create a card that can be sent or used as artwork. Learn techniques and get inspired by the endless possibilities that can be created.  

All materials supplied. This is an in-person class.

Teacher Bio:

Julia Macek is an accomplished and dedicated artist and instructor specializing in modern calligraphy and paper craft, particularly paper quilling. Throughout the past decade Julia has cultivated a unique artistic practice that often blends both modern lettering with quilled paper design.

Over the years, Julia has shared her calligraphy and quilling passion with students of all ages. Her style of instruction is highly interactive and fun as she invites students to transform lines of ink or paper into textural, vibrant art.

Julia’s work has won several First Place and Best of Show awards in her county and the Florida State Fair. Her work has been sold in craft fairs and shown local galleries, stores, and even on national television, including a spot on CBS Sunday Morning News in early 2025. Julia holds an active membership in the esteemed North American Quilling Guild.

Through teaching and her own creations, Julia inspires others to explore the beauty of both the written word and the limitless possibilities of paper crafting.
