The Royal Sabre arrived at an interesting moment in typewriter history. By the late 1960s, typewriters were no longer just office machines, they were becoming part of the look and personality of the modern home. Royal responded with a new generation of full-featured portable machines, and the Sabre was one of them.
We see many of these in Blue but rarely this elegant green. This is one of those colors that can change dramatically depending on the light and you can see that in the photos. So which is ther true color? All of them!
And the styling...retro for us now, but this was a hopeful, visionary future-oriented design - like a typewriter fit for going to the moon!
But the Sabre wasn't designed simply to look good.
Royal packed it with features that were genuinely useful for serious writing, including Magic Margin controls, Touch Control, and Magic Column Set. Contemporary Royal advertising listed it as a full-size portable with an 88-character keyboard.
Made when things were made to last.
This is the kind of machine that reminds you that "portable" didn't necessarily mean flimsy. The Sabre is a substantial full-size portable, weighing more than 21 pounds in its original shipping configuration, and was designed as a serious writing machine that could move from desk to desk. Along with the Smith-Coronas of the same era, this was the peak of typewriter engineering, it would never get better than this.
Comes with original Hardshell case, and a printed copy of the original owner's manual.
This machine has been fully serviced, refurbished and tested - ready for use right out of the box. Expect normal wear and tear true to age.
