Why is it that even with the facts on our side, we so rarely change anyone's mind? This workshop explores a surprising answer, and a better way forward. No experience necessary. All are welcome, whatever issues you care about, you will learn proven methods for creating change.
You will discover why facts-first fail again and again, and why many social / civic change efforts produce little if any real results. You will learn why people hold positions you strongly disagree with, and how to effectively have them see another path forward.
You'll learn the evidence-based Four Moves of a persuasive letter and watch them transform a well-meaning lecture into a letter someone can actually hear. Then you'll write your own, by hand. Handwritten letters to fellow citizens have shown measurable effects in randomized trials, and the slowness of writing by hand is the point: it sharpens your thinking, signals real effort to your reader, and helps sustain you for the long haul of civic life.
Everything is included: stationery, pens, a handout of the Four Moves, and a model letter to guide you. You'll leave with a finished letter, ready to send.
